Cedar's Got Talent

For the third year running, Cedar held its very own talent show, Cedar’s Got Talent on the 14th of July. The panel of judges consisted of teachers Mr Ravi, Mdm Lim, Mr Eric Tan and Mdm Faridah.

The atmosphere was indeed electrifying as various classes streamed into the Cedar Hub.
Anticipation built up to a crescendo as the first contestants stole the spotlight.

The dance group, ’Jade‘ performed a mix of Broadway and hip hop dances, accompanied by a
medley of songs such as ‘I Am A Good Girl’ from the movie ‘Burlesque’ and ‘Do It Like A Dude’ by Jessie J.

Next, the duo of Syasya & Diana performed an acoustic stripped-down version of ‘Airplanes’
and ‘Stereolove’ accompanied by only the gentle strumming of the guitar in the background. They astounded the crowd with their vocals although they are from the sports CCAs. Syasya left the crowd stunned as she performed her rap abilities.

Following that, a very confident Sarah took to the stage with a solo dance piece which she
choreographed. Wanting to showcase her love for dancing to her fellow Cedarians, the Secondary
4 student who is in the CCA netball performed the most spectacular hip hop dance piece. She also danced to Miss A’s ‘Good Girl Bad Girl’, showcasing her versatility for the different styles of dance and ended with a spectacular split. Her courage to step out alone as well as her fantastic dancing skills led the school in to loud cheers and applause.

Perhaps what surprised many Cedarians was when five secondary 4 students, the ’Mad Kru‘ stepped on to the stage. Consisting of a dancer and 4 other less experienced performers, they shook the hall with the most professional dance choreography of hip hop, isolation and B2st dance covers.
Woan Chin, one of the performers, made some audience members chuckle as her spectacles added a hilarious effect on top of the masks they used. However, they still delivered a wonderful dance as the judges exclaimed, “We couldn’t identify who the dancer in the group was!”

The last performance was indeed the most memorable, as it was performed by none other than our beloved group of teachers. They formed a team, aptly named the Highly Animated Racial Harmony Act (HARHA), involving Mrs Jai, Mr Chai, Ms Begum, Ms Yap, Ms Thang, Ms Lin and Mdm Valar. Incorporated with the NE message ‘We must maintain racial and religious harmony’, they put up a musical set during the Maria Hertogh Riots. Through an entertaining play and a song, it has proven beyond the shadow of doubt that performance brought the event to an end with an impactful and valuable lesson.

The following week, the winners of the talent show were announced. Sarah had clinched the top
prize while ‘Mad Kru’ claimed first runner up. The rest of the participants received consolation
prizes.
