On 19th April 2011, Cheryl Chan (4/I) clinched the gold medal for the B div 3000m event at the Track and Field championships, despite being injured with a shin splint.
Initially, Cheryl started off third behind Winona Howe of Seng Kang secondary and Yang Tian Tian of the Singapore Sports school. The three were strong runners, maintaining a large distance between the rest of the runners by the 4th lap. They were in the same position throughout the whole race.
At the last lap, Cheryl quickened her speed and sprinted with overwhelming energy to overtake the 2 runners in front of her. Admist the excited cheers of supporters, she clinched the first position with the timing of 11minutes 42.05 seconds.
Besides Cheryl's gold medal, Valerie (3A) also landed in 6th position.
In the C div 3000m event, Xin Ying secured the 1st position with a timing of 12 minutes 25 seconds. In this event, the runners were more closely packed than in the B div.
Besides the finals for the 3000m event, Cedar also got through the semi finals for the 4x100m b div event. The runners were Shannon, Arinah, Diana and Joanne.

“Today I didn’t run with my legs, I ran with my heart.” Cheryl Chan expressed, aftercoming in third place in the B Division Girls’ 1500m race at the 52nd National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.
April 20 was another eventful day in track and field for schools as five records werebroken at Choa Chu Kang Stadium that afternoon.
Cedar Girls’ Cheryl Chan of secondary 4I who had just won gold in the B Division Girls’3000m race the day before, put up a good fight despite being slightly injured. She hadplanned to sprint the last 150m, but was unable to catch up with her strong opponents.Even so, she did her best, and managed to catch up to achieve the third placing.
Another admirable performer from Cedar Girls’ was Lok Xin Ying of secondary 2S. XinYing had gotten the first position for the 3000m C div event the day before. This time,she managed to come in second place for the C Division Girls’ 1500m. Xin Ying had described the race as a good run, and was confident to place Top 3. Up with familiar competitors from Crescent, Nanyang and Methodist Girls’, she completed the race with her best efforts. Her face glowed with satisfaction from her latest performance in1500m.
C Division shot put was another area of glory for Cedar Girls’ as first place fell to Nikkiwith 10.43m while Nur Naazilah managed to achieve third.
Zheng Yanying achieved 2nd placing in the C Division 400m race by the smallest margin, against her Singapore Sports School contender. Nur Syafiqah as well as Yanleiwere not far behind, earning 3rd and 5th placing respectively.
Other commendable participants include Laura Tan, who showed laudable effort in the80m Hurdles, Shanna Foo and Diana Basil in the 100m Hurdles.
The Track and Field Nationals Finals officially end on Wednesday, April 27.
