Badminton Nationals
By Gladys Ng 3H
21st of March marked the start of the much anticipated Nationals for both the B and C division of Badminton. Cedar Badminton, who achieved the 4th and 3rd placing in the south zone championships respectively, played a total of ten matches against strong opponents from various schools.
The B division faced stiff competition as they placed against Nanyang Girls’ High, Xin Min Secondary, and Tanjong Katong Girls’ School. They played their last match on the 25th of March against opponents from Tanjong Katong Secondary, and despite their best efforts, lost with a score of 1-4. A representative from the B division said that she was not satisfied with their results, as she felt that if they had done better in the South Zone Championships, they could have instead gotten a third placing, which might allow them to have a better draw for the nationals, hence changing the opponents and possibly enabling them to stand a greater chance of moving up to nationals top eight. On top of that, she felt that the B division was capable of winning Tanjong Kating Girls’ School.
The C division played a total of seven matches. They lost five matches to schools like Raffles Girls’, which, similar to last year, eventually claimed the first position, and River Valley High, full of adept and experienced opponents, but won two matches played against Kranji Secondary and St Joseph’s Convent School with a score of 3-2 and 4-1 respectively.
Both divisions maintained 2010’s positions by achieving top sixteen in the nationals.
We have confidence in Cedar Badminton and wish them all the best as they continue to strive and put in their best efforts to produce even better results for the year 2012.
